Going Surfing in Lagos Harbour – BBC News

Godpower Pekipuma is an amazing surfer..he started a surf school at Takwa Bay to help and promote the sport of surfing in Nigeria.

However just recently Godpower, together with his wife and two kids were driven away from Takwa Bay together with the 200 or so residents of the island by government authorities looking to develop the land. There has been no relocation or compensation.

Godpower is now homeless on the streets of Lagos. He has sold all of his surfboards to make ends meet. He now roams the streets of Lagos in a desperate bid to find shelter and food. Each day is now a daily grind and a desperate bid to find food to feed his wife and two kids.Shelter is wherever they can find a roof each night  from stranger or friend.

Recently Godpower got an invitation from an international surfer in Cape Verde to come and develop his skills as a surfer. He is extremely sad that he may not be able to fulfill this dream.

I have started this GoFundMe project to  help rent an apartment for Godpower and his family and to get him a ticket to travel to Cape Verde to continue his passion for the sport of surfing. With this first step Godpower can resume his passion and encourage more surfers in Nigeria, and who knows perhaps even revive Nigeria’s first school of surfing for poor and under-privileged children.

Thank you very much as you donate kindly to this cause.
