Virgo Foundation in a rare and unprecedented move has collaborated with the British Museum to have released to us the entire collection of Benin Bronzes. These incredible works of art would be released to Virgo Foundation for photographic purposes only. In this way people would gain a better understanding of these sculptures created by our Ancestors.
The present collection of Benin Bronzes on display in the British Museum represents a mere fraction of the entire collection of the Benin Bronzes. In taking photographs of the remaining bronzes hidden in the vaults of the British Museum we are able to archive these works of art and reveal their magnificence and the story they tell to the unlearned and uninformed.
In this way we keep a very important part of our heritage alive for future generations to learn from. If we as a charitable organisation don’t do this then the knowledge of these bronzes could be lost simply because they are hidden away underground in the British Museum
